After working with Newcity for a few years as a cover and layout designer for their biweekly newspaper, I was brought onboard their quest to make a feature film. We had a few months to experiment with potential ideas, which lead to the magic hour a few weeks before the South by Southwest world premier. As an added challenge, there wasn’t an established logo or wordmark for Newcity’s Chicago Film Project. With Newcity’s iconic logo, it didn’t make sense to create a competing wordmark, so an integrated approach worked well.
