Joe Mastrino sought me out to help him create packaging for his new videography company. He wanted an Apple-like look and I convinced him to go with wood instead of cardboard. I also reminded him it will still have traces of a handmade object as I am not an Apple factory. I drafted up a few designs to house a hard drive, thumbdrive, two DVDs, and a Blu-Ray. We tested a variety of materials, finishes, shapes and closures. Joe loved being part of the process as we explored materials, shapes and weights. For the end product, I laser cut the wood and duo-toned acrylic, sanded and painted the wood, and assembled the boxes. 35 of these boxes are now in the hands of his select clients.
